Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja (The birdcatcher am I) is the first of the two arias of Papageno in The Magic Flute.
In the first representation of this Singspiel (German opera with spoken sections) in Vienna just two months before the composer’s death, the character of Papageno was played by the very librettist, Emanuel Schikaneder.
